Also if you get hired, disclose a disability like ADHD, they can't just fire you for that. They are legally required to provide you with reasonable acommodations. If you feel you're let go because of a disability that you disclosed, and you have enough direct evidence of that, you can absolutely sue them about it.
But beyond that, yeah. There's nothing to be embarassed about. If you're trying to work with them they should be trying to work with you.
as someone with a disability that affects my work performance and a whole lot of miscellaneous legal knowledge: this is not actually legally true in the way you think it is
long story short, in most of the u.s., if you are going to disclose a disability you need to do it to HR, not your boss, with a request for a reasonable accommodation for your disability, at which point they'll probably ask for documentation. this is what protects you. if you are just showing up five minutes late every day and you just go "sorry i have adhd" at my boss that does not provide you any legal protections. going to HR once you're hired and going "just so you know i have adhd" and ending it there, without naming the specific accommodation(s) you need because of it, does not provide you legal protections. asking your HR department for reasonable accommodations due to your disability as per the ADA does. only that does.
also please note that the accommodation has to be reasonable, and what is defined as reasonable will vary from workplace to workplace. in this way, you can be fired for difficulties caused by your disability, even if you disclose it, as long as it's ruled that the accommodations you asked for weren't reasonable.
someone who tells you not to disclose a disability to your workplace probably isn't being ableist? they're probably trying to protect you because most (not all!) of the time it's not actually necessary and/or you're gonna do it in a way that won't actually do anything for you
Do we have a franz kafka diary entry for july 1st, i want to know what he thinks!!!
im expecting a lot of "pride month is over, now it's time for wrath month" posts. that's cool and all. but july is disability pride month.
pride month is when you're SUPPOSED to be angry. it's a celebration AND a riot. that was the best time to get angry. second best time is now. but it's not wrath month. let disabled people have this.
please get angry with us. please fight with us! we are both losing our rights, if we ever even had them to begin with. please don't talk over us, especially during our own pride month.
did you know over 10,000 people die a year while waiting to be told whether or not they can receive disability benefits?
did you know while being provided disability benefits, disabled people cannot have more than $2,000 total in their bank account? the average rent for an apartment in the united states, as of last month, is $1,995. per month.
while they want to kill queer people, they want to kill disabled people just as bad. please look out for your disabled friends and family. please look out for those of us who don't have friends and family. those of us who are out on the streets.
what are you wearing rn and is it representative of your style
Getting into the Magnus Archives fandom before you finish the series is wild because they’ve all made a collective decision to pretend the cast loves each other and it’s all just an office drama, supported by copious fanfic and fanart and things. And then you get to the actual content and it’s like,, most of them genuinely hate each other. Not even in a cute way, they genuinely want each other to die
